About Us
The idea for Lakelubbers was born six years after Brian and Lisa Raub, co-founders, moved to Virginia's Smith Mountain Lake in 2001. They created travel-related websites about vacation rentals in 1996 (Vacation Villa Referral Center and then A1Vacations.com), Smith Mountain Lake in 1998, and Watauga Lake, Tennessee in 2006. In 2007, they began building Lakelubbers' worldwide database of lakes and reservoirs for lake enthusiasts like themselves, drawing on lessons learned and knowledge gained from their earlier websites. This lakes database became the foundation for Lakelubbers' "Lakes for Vacation and Recreation", an online guide for lake lovers.
By the end of 2010, Lakelubbers will cover more than 2,000 lakes in the USA and 50 other countries. Lakelubbers features vacation and relocation information about the world's best-known lakes -- with lake vacation rentals, lake homes for sale, lake real estate and business guides, lake statistics, messaging forums, fishing reports, and much more. We can help you to find your next vacation destinations or a retirement home - on and near inland lakes that are not threatened by global warming.
Lakelubbers describes and compares lake vacation and retirement opportunities throughout the world. We started with lakes in the USA, and now include lakes in every US state. We add 75-100 lakes per month to our web site, including many lakes outside of the USA. Because of the enormity of our task -- gathering detailed, accurate information about more than 6,000 lakes worldwide by 2014 we encourage visitors like you to suggest lakes, and to contribute photos information about your favorite lakes.
Lakelubbers offers advertising - starting at $49 - for vacation rentals, homes for sale, real estate, and many other lake-related businesses. National "banner ads" are available for companies that provide boating and fishing equipment, sporting goods, and apparel to lakelubbers throughout the world.
Lakelubbers looks forward to making you a "lake enthusiast", and to providing you with the information you need to plan your next lake vacation - or to retire to a beautiful spot with a lake view - anywhere in the world that you'd like to go.
What is a lake? Lakelubbers.com defines a lake as a natural or man-made inland body of water that provides significant recreational or residential opportunities.
What's a Lakelubber? A Lakelubber is a person who loves lakes -- a connoisseur of inland bodies of water. "Lakelubber" is not yet in any dictionary ("landlubber" is), but we hope to remedy that by 2015!
