Tucked away in the beautiful Pocono Mountains, Arrowhead Lake is a private gated community in Monroe County, Pennsylvania with a visitor-friendly nature. In the past it was named one of Better Homes and Gardens best up-and-coming vacation spots. With its recreation amenities and the surrounding beauty of the Pocono Mountains, it is easy to see why.
Arrowhead Lake is actually made up of two lakes. Arrowhead Lake is 250 acres and North Arrowhead Lake is 78 acres. North Arrowhead Lake is impounded by the North Arrowhead Dam. The earthen dam was built on a tributary of Trout Creek in 1970 and is managed by the Arrowhead Lake Community Association. The resulting reservoir was created for recreation, and develped into a popular recreational destination.
The Pennsylvania Department of Fish and Game stocks Arrowhead Lake. Currently all fishing is catch and release with the exception of the trout species. Healthy populations of bass and pickerel also inhabit the lake. There are trout fishing contests until early fall, and in the winter there is some ice fishing. Although the lakes are not large, there is still plenty of room to swim and boat. There are boat rentals available on both Arrowhead Lake and North Arrowhead Lake, and it is a good place for sailboats. No gasoline powered boats are allowed on the Arrowhead Lakes.
In addition to swimming at one of the four beaches around Arrowhead Lake, there are three swimming pools, two of which are heated. The Arrowhead Lake Community Recreation Department offers a variety of classes including swimming lessons and water aerobics. There are also tennis courts with lessons available. There are kids craft classes and family movie nights. A variety of contests, including sand castle building and holiday house decorating, help build a sense of community all year long.
The Arrowhead Lake Community Association strives to build both a sense of community and privacy. None of the amenities are open to the public, but Arrowhead Lake has a reputation for attracting short term rentals. It is a great vacation home community and very guest friendly. Because it is just and hour and a half to two hours to Philadelphia, New York City, and New Jersey, the lake is very accessible. The NASCAR Pocono Raceway is nearby. Downhill skiing and golf are also within ten miles of Arrowhead Lake.
Hickory Run State Park in Carbon County is an easy day trip from Arrowhead Lake. The park encompasses 15,990 acres in the western foothills of the Pocono Mountains. Early settlers called it "shades of death" because of the extremely dark forest, swamps and unfarmable land. Loggers eventually cleared the land and in 1935 the National Park Service bought the land that would become Hickory Run. It was established as a National Recreation Demo Area, and in 1939 it was home to over 200 Civilian Conservation Corps members. It became Hickory Run State Park in 1945. A significant portion of the park is glacial moraine or rocky soil known as glacial till. The boulder field is one of the park's most notable features. Literally a field of boulders, it is a National Natural Landmark.
Arrowhead Lake offers owners and guests all the recreation amentias of the Pocono Mountains and the privacy of a gated community while at the same time welcoming guest and renters. It is the perfect vacation home combination.
