East Grand Lake: Description

East Grand Lake is part of the Aroostook Region of Northeastern Maine, located on the Maine-New Brunswick (Canada) border. It is Maine's third largest lake with 16,070 acres, measuring 22 miles long and 4 miles wide, with a maximum depth of 128 feet. East Grand Lake is part of the Chipineticook chain of lakes, which form the headwaters of the St. Lawrence River.

East Grand Lake's crystal clear, blue waters offer a variety of recreation activities to visitors and residents of the lake. Fishing is one of the most popular activities, and anglers can wile away the hours fishing for abundant salmon, smallmouth bass, and lake trout that make their home under the lake's glassy surface. Although not as common, anglers hope for a catch of yellow perch, white perch, American eel, brook trout, and more. If you plan to fish both the USA and Canadian sides of the lake, make sure you have fishing licenses from both countries.

East Grand Lake offers year-round recreational activities. Low-key kayaking and canoeing offer the opportunity to view the lake's beautiful scenery and observe nature at its best. The panoramic vistas of sparkling waters and wooded shores will leave you with wonderful memories. Glimpses of the bald eagles, moose, bear, coyotes and other wild animals that make their home here will be forever etched in your mind or your camera, if you are a nature photographer.

In the colder winter months, visitors can take part in the annual ice fishing derby in January. Other popular winter activities are cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing. A year-round must-see for the history buff is the Grand Lake Stream Historical Society, which provides information about the lake area's history and traditions.
