Lakelubbers: Jobs for Lake Moderators
We need volunteer "lake experts" to start and to monitor Lakelubbers messaging forums for their chosen lake. We especially welcome local Chambers of Commerce as lake moderators. There can be one or two moderators for each lake.
Lakelubbers: Freelance Jobs for Lake Writers
Sorry, but we are currently accepting no new applications for the job "Lake Writer". Please check again in 2-3 months. The information below is provided for reference only, to prior applicants.
We love lakes! Lakelubbers.com needs part-time internet-based writers to help build our database of lakes. You'll work from home as an independent contractor. You won't pay a penny for gas or suffer a "morning commute". To apply, do NOT call or send us your resume. If you meet the "Qualifications" below, please see "How to Apply".
Qualifications
- Excellent spelling, grammar, and writing skills are required.
- Your internet research skills must be very good. We will help you to improve your lake-specific research skills.
- You must pay careful attention to details. We need a high level of accuracy in our lake listings and we require that you never violate copyrights.
- You must have a high speed internet connection, because this job requires extensive research via the web.
How to Apply
Sorry, but we are currently accepting no new applications for the job "Lake Writer". Please check again in 2-3 months. The information below is provided for reference only, to prior applicants.
Follow these directions very carefully to show us that you pay close attention to details. Otherwise, we will reject your application.
- To see the type and quality of writing, and the level of statistical research that we require, review (but do not write about) at least 3 of these 6 lakes that are already described on Lakelubbers: Smith Mountain Lake, Devils Lake, Conesus Lake, Bull Shoals Lake, Lake Lanier, and Lake Norman.
- Choose any USA lake that is NOT currently listed on Lakelubbers. Its surface area must be at least 640 acres. Research the lake via the internet, then write your description of it, in your own words. Lakelubbers' goal is to inform vacationers and those who might like to retire near that lake. Lake summaries should weave factual information into engaging text, and should include at least 500 words. Be sure to describe the lake's history, its recreational uses (especially fishing and watersports opportunities), and residential development near its shoreline (if there is any). Write in your own words, and be very careful never to violate any copyrights.
- Use the internet to find as many of these statistics as possible: surface area in acres, shoreline length in miles, normal elevation in feet above sea level, maximum and average depth in feet, volume in acre-feet, and completion year (if dammed). If you include some of the other lake statistics that we request, that will enhance your application.
- Create a new account, then "Login" to Lakelubbers, then "Add a Lake" using your text and statistical research. You MUST be logged in to apply. Do not add any photos unless you personally own their copyrights.
- After you have completed the steps above, call Lisa Raub at 540-721-3327 during regular business hours (9AM-5PM Eastern Time, business days) to request a review of the lake you have added. Your write-up will appear immediately on Lakelubbers. We will review it as quickly as we can. If we like your write-up and statistical research, we'll make you an offer to join Lakelubbers, mail you a Lakelubbers cap (below) after you accept and send us your info for our "About Us" page ... and pay you $35 for your first lake write-up. We're not looking to get something for nothing, so if we decide not to hire you, or if you can't accept our offer, we will either pay you $35 for your summary, or delete your write-up.
Payment, Fact Checking, Copyrights, Non-US Writers
Lakelubbers writers track their own hours, must submit invoices, and are paid by check once a month. We will occasionally fact-check your text and lake statistics. We will also occasionally ask you to provide your sources (and conduct our own web searches), to confirm that no copyrights are violated.
We will consider non-US writers. For non-US writers, the only payment method we can offer is PayPal. All lake reviews must be written in strictly American English.
