Lake Claiborne is well known as the "Best Kept Secret in Louisiana." Also referred to as Louisiana's purest lake, the quality of the water makes Lake Claiborne the best that Northern Louisiana has to offer. Beautiful flowers and trees or vibrant autumn leaves never fail to greet eager visitors.

Lake Claiborne is located 5 miles east of Homer, Louisiana in Claiborne Parish on a tributary of the D'Arbonne River. The area is blanketed with piney woods, rolling green hills and shimmering clear waters. Lake Claiborne never ceases to inspire the outdoor enthusiast in everyone. The richly wooded shoreline bordering the lake presents a beautiful natural setting. Built to be used for drinking water purposes, the lake attracts visitors throughout the year.

Lake Claiborne State Park offers various recreational activities. Choose from swimming, fishing, bird watching, boating of all kinds, waterskiing, camping, hiking or just plain relaxing while enjoying unsurpassed natural scenic beauty. The remarkable beauty of Lake Claiborne seems to peak during its dazzling sunsets.

Lake Claiborne also offers several one-of-a-kind opportunities. Park naturalists offer entertaining archaeology and nature-based programs and guided nature hikes. Topics include aquatic life and the part it plays in the ecosystem, outdoor safety, and first-aid among many other topics. There are also very entertaining puppet shows, fishing derbies, and even trips into the lives of frontiersmen from the 1700's and early 1800's.

Lake Claiborne is richly stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill sunfish, channel catfish, black crappie, chain pickerel, hybrid stripers, and walleye fingerlings. The lake proudly holds the Louisiana record for the fifth and sixth largest striped bass.

The beach and picnic areas are connected to the campgrounds by several boardwalks, gravel walking paths, and hiking trails. A number of campsites with water, electricity, picnic tables, and barbecue grills are readily available. You can rent a boat, surfboat or canoe and spend your vacation at one of the many rustic campsites located across the beach.

The myriad of campgrounds, beaches, fishing piers, cabins, pavilion, picnic areas, playgrounds, foot bridges, and boat houses offer something for everyone. Anglers and water sports enthusiasts can rent boats or launch their own from several boat ramps. Boathouses with a number of fishing piers are scattered throughout Lake Claiborne. You can play golf, attend a variety of music shows or the annual rodeo. History lubbers can take a look back in time at the famous H.S. Ford Museum and Claiborne Parish Courthouse, a pre-Civil War courthouse still in use.

The lake is free of pollutants and most of the lake is deep and clear of obstructions, making water sports a true delight. The water temperature is cool year-round due to natural springs under the lake. The multitude of activities available at Lake Claiborne include water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, birding, boating of all kinds, camping, hiking or just plain relaxing. The woods of Lake Claiborne are home to a wide variety of wildlife. Stunning nature trails and a scenic overlook allow you to appreciate the beauty at your own leisure.

Remember to include a refreshing swim at the park's sandy beach on your To Do list. The beach is located on an inlet of the lake and offers a truly calming retreat. You will see the area come to life as experienced park naturalists are available to present excellent nature-based programs and entertaining guided hikes.
