Nestled in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, Sargent Lake is located east of the town of Belmont. At just over 43 acres, this lake is sure to capture your heart with its quiet, rustic beauty. The area of Belmont is located in Belknap County and has a wide range of habitats from rolling terrain with sandy knolls to wetland complexes with picturesque streams. Sargent Lake lies near the southeast boundary of town with expanses of forested uplands on all sides of the lake. With minimal development along the shoreline, Sargent Lake offers both peaceful wildlife scenery and entertaining recreational activities.

The Tioga River runs east to west through Belmont and feeds into the Winnipesaukee River. Most of Belmont's history centers on the Tioga River where mills operated along its banks. Today, Belmont area lakes provide valuable recreational opportunities to residents and vacationers. Because other lakes near Belmont have experienced significant development around their shorelines (Lake Winnisquam and Silver Lake), Belmont's plans focus on balancing residential development and natural resources preservation.

With a depth reaching to 10 feet, Sargent Lake is home to a variety of fish species such as bluegill, smelt and lake trout. Anglers will enjoy net fishing, fly fishing, spinning or trolling to bait their catches. Sargent Lake connects to Badger Pond and Sawyer Lake via Badger Brook, a tributary of the Tioga River. A dam built on Badger Brook in 1871 created Sargent Lake. Spend a long summer day boating, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming the crystal blue waters of Sargent Lake. The lake is just south of two of the largest lakes in New Hampshire: Lake Winnipesaukee and Lake Winnisquam.

The Belmont area has an abundance of riparian habitat, a habitat providing an important transition zone between upland habitats and aquatic habitats. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy sights of muskrats, beavers, river otter and other weasel species, moose, white-tailed deer, black bear, raccoons, bats, red and gray fox, coyote, bobcat, and many more species. Birders will delight in seeing songbirds, raptors, ducks, herons, and others in the area. To the east of Sargent Lake is Belknap Mountain State Forest. Here you will find trails for hiking, biking, and ATVing. During the winter months Belknap Mountain is perfect for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. If rigorous fun is not your style, take a picnic and enjoy the scenic views.

Sargent Lake offers an area rich in wildlife and recreational activities year round. Fall months bring New England's colorful changing leaves, and winter months bring snow that blankets the area. Stay during the spring and summer to see plants and animals bursting with life. Golf is available nearby at some of New Hampshire's finest resorts.

Vacation rentals are available to sample Belmont area lakes. Sargent Lake offers building lots for sale to visitors who decide to plant more permanent roots. So, pack your bags, and head to Sargent Lake to experience some New Hampshire charm.
