For visitors of the Northern Tourism Region of the beautiful state of Indiana, Webster Lake is a wonderful stopover to enjoy the scenery, incredible fishing and small town charm. Located in Kosciusko county, Webster Lake is well-known as a great muskie fishery and is home to the Dixie, Indiana's longest running sternwheel paddleboat. Visitors can also enjoy sailing, boating, swimming, jet skiing or just relaxing with a picnic on the beach.

Spring-fed Webster was formed in the 1800's when several small natural lakes were impounded with the building of a grist mill and dam on the western side of the lake. Like many parts of Indiana, white settlers had arrived in the area around Webster Lake after the Native Americans were re-located. By the mid 1800's, the county of Kosciusko (pronounced Cause-Key-Osko) was formed and agriculture was the major economic force in the area. Around that time, the grist mill was purchased by Thomas Boydston and the lake was known as Boydston Lake for many years. In the late 1800's the name was changed to Webster Lake or Lake Webster, depending on who you talk to, and the small town of North Webster began to take shape on the western shores of the lake. The town never grew too much and today it is known for its quaint shops and friendly small town atmosphere.

One thing that has grown is Webster Lake's reputation for muskie fishing. Considered by many to be the best muskie fishery in the state of Indiana, Webster Lake continues to provide trophy sized fish for anglers. A consistent stocking program has helped develop the lake into a must-fish location with five to six adult muskie per acre. Fisherman can also count on largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, black crappie, yellow perch, bluegill, redear sunfish, bullhead, and carp. State owned public access with ramp can be found on the channel around the backwater part of the lake.

When you've had your fill of fishing, you can take a leisurely paddleboat ride on the Dixie. This sternwheel paddleboat has delighted generations of visitors and residents since 1929. There are a fair amount of golf courses in the immediate area of North Webster as well or you can stroll the streets of North Webster and enjoy the many stores and antique shops. A day trip may include a visit to Shipshewana, the heart of northern Indiana Amish Country. But avoid Sunday's, as most Amish-related attractions are closed on that day.

With most of the land around Webster Lake developed for residential use, visitors will have no problem finding vacation rentals with gorgeous lake views. Cottages and homes are available for your stay whether it is temporary or permanent. Real estate is also plentiful, with some undeveloped lots still available. The small town of North Webster provides all the daily necessities, but you can get over to either South Bend or Fort Wayne easily, as Webster Lake is right between them, 40 miles in either direction.

So, if you are looking for great muskie fishing or just a quiet getaway, Webster Lake is awaiting your visit with all the charm and relaxation you can find in one place.
