All About Arcadia Lake, OK

Arcadia Lake is one of the Southwest’s newest lakes. In the Frontier Country Region of central Oklahoma, forest meets grassland to create a unique area called the Cross Timbers. This unusual environment is the home of Arcadia Lake, the perfect place to swim, fish, camp, hike and simply enjoy the water. With 1,725 acres, Arcadia Lake combines the appeal of a beautiful natural landscape and proximity to a number of recreational facilities. It is no wonder Arcadia Lake draws so many visitors each year.

Arcadia Lake is a young lake, born in 1987 when the City of Edmond made arrangements for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to built a dam across Deep Fork River. Besides a wealth of recreational opportunities, the lake is used to supply water to the city of Edmond. There is no limit to the fun available on Arcadia Lake. Windsurfing, sailing and motor boating are all popular activities. A few of the parks along the shore even have areas designated for water skiing or jet skiing.

Arcadia Lake is popular among anglers for the variety of fish it holds. Largemouth bass, striped bass, catfish, bluegill and crappies are all caught. Even when temperatures turn cold in the fall, fishermen can still fish comfortably; Spring Creek Park offers a heated, enclosed fishing dock for year round use. The area surrounding Arcadia Lake acts as a magnet to wildlife viewers and birdwatchers alike who enjoy the natural setting and the species it attracts. Bird species include grebes, ducks, warblers, pelicans, woodpeckers and other varieties. White-tailed deer, beavers, foxes and raccoons call Arcadia Lake home. An Annual Eagle Watch is held each January, giving attendees the opportunity to view America’s avian icon.

Miles of trails are available for both walking and biking. A six-mile equestrian trail allows horse lovers an opportunity to trail ride in a natural setting. Several campgrounds and parks surround Arcadia Lake, allowing plenty of recreational space for both tents and RVs. Arcadia Lake’s Edmond Park, Central State Park and Spring Creek Park offer sandy swimming beaches, boat launch ramps, playgrounds and ball fields. Edmond Park even has a fishing pond for young anglers. One of the most popular amenities in the park system is Spring Creek Park’s 36-hole disc golf course. Disk golf is one of the fastest growing sports available and the course is well-used.
