All About Pocono Lake, PA

The majestic Pocono Mountains set the backdrop for the lake that shares its name, Pocono Lake. The manmade Pocono Lake is located in the Northeastern Mountain Region of Pennsylvania in Monroe County. Built for logging in 1867, Pocono Lake is now part of the Pocono Lake Preserve which is a private lake community.

The Pocono Lake Preserve was founded in 1907 for the purpose of forming a vacation and religious retreat. Members of the Preserve have two to four acre plots with a cottage. A road circles the lake making it possible for all members of Pocono Lake Preserve to have access to the lake. The Preserve also maintains almost 28 miles of hiking trails that meander through their lands. Motorized vehicles are not permitted on the hiking trails, allowing hikers to enjoy the tranquility of their surroundings.

Although Pocono Lake Preserve is a private lake community, vacation rentals can be found in the mountains surrounding the lake. The peaceful mountain atmosphere will leave any guest feeling calm and refreshed. The Pocono Mountains are well known as a vacation getaway. Visitors may enjoy numerous outdoor activities such as horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, camping, and picnicking in the warmer months. When snow begins to fall, the Pocono Mountains become a winter wonderland and offer skiing, snowmobiling or even dogsled racing. An abundance of wildlife lives in these state parks, and very often observant watchers may spot fox, white-tailed deer, black bear, turkey, raccoon, beaver, mink, and squirrel. There are many streams, rivers and lakes located in the state parks where anglers can cast in their line for bass, yellow perch, sunfish, pickerel, brook trout, muskellunge, walleye, crappie, and fallfish.

Summer, winter, spring, and fall, Pocono Lake and Pocono Mountains are beautiful year round, and each season offers its own fun. For those who are having a hard time deciding when to visit the recreational wonderland can pack their bags and take up residence in the surrounding area.
